Institute of Human Nutrition (IHN) is a unit within Faculty of Food Science which is highly recognized among similar university faculties in Poland. It carries out research in various areas of human nutrition, such as evaluation of nutritional status, dietary habits, food preferences, feeding patterns of different groups of population, factors affecting food choice and also physicochemical and biological evaluation of food quality.

Professional experience also includes participation in national research projects in co-operation with National Food and Nutrition Institute, Centre of Diabetology and Metabolism Disturbances and other Polish universities.

IHN offers education in general and physiological bases of human nutrition, dietetics with prophylaxis, biological methods of food assessment, catering technology and technological designing in catering. Presently IHN has a staff of 13 employees.

Team Profile

The Institute of Human Nutrition (IHN) has, since its establishment in 1980, carried out extensive research in various areas of human nutrition, such as evaluation of nutritional status, dietary habits, food preferences, feeding patterns, factors affecting food choice by consumers and also physico-chemical and biological evaluation of food quality. Staff from the IHN also have vast experience in working with students in the field of fundamentals of human nutrition, dietetics with prevention, human physiology and catering technology. In the Food in Later Life project, IHN is involved in Work Packages 1, 3, 4, 7 and 8.

Marzena Danowska-Oziewicz supervises the work of the University of Warmia and Mazury team. Her main scientific interests are consumers’ attitudes and preferences towards different types of food and factors influencing food choices. She also investigates the influence of processing, packaging and storage on food quality. She is involved in all Work Packages.

Lidia Wadolowska has carried out extensive research on various aspects of nutrition and older people since 1996. She is mainly interested in determinants of feeding pattern and nutritional status of different groups of the population, dietary prophylaxis and the role of diet in pathological conditions. She is involved in all Work Packages.

Malgorzata Slowinska has conducted research on dietary habits and nutritional status of older people. Currently she carries out research on the relationship between feeding pattern and longevity of elderly people. She is responsible for qualitative data analysis in Work Packages 3 and 4.

Ewa Szymelfejnik is mainly interested in health and nutritional status determinants in women with particular regard to osteoporosis. In this project she is involved in all Work Packages.

Ewa Niedzwiedzka studies consumers’ behaviour and attitudes and their influence on feeding pattern and nutritional status of people. She is mainly involved in Work Package 4.
